After Marion Cotillard, Zaz. On February 14, 2007, we celebrated love, of course, with Valentine’s Day, but also the release of a cult film that retraced the story of one of the most famous French artists: Édith Piaf. The film The kid, in reference to his famous nickname, gathered millions of spectators and was hailed by critics. Several years later, a musical in honor of the artist who died in October 1963 should see the light of day.
Indeed, Thomas Langmann, at the head of this project already mentioned in 2018, confided in our colleagues from the Parisian to announce some very good news. His idea was not aborted, but was simply postponed because of a reason that everyone knows: the Covid-19 pandemic. “The project was just postponed because of the pandemic and Zaz’s schedule. But we’re going to put on the musical, I think in 2025 in Las Vegas. We’ll be in residence at the Mirage”he reveals to our colleagues.
Zaz totally transformed
The producer, director and screenwriter showed the poster already created and some “top secret” images at the Parisian. Zaz would be breathtaking by her physical transformation but also by her talent when she takes over the greatest titles of Edith Piaf to believe our colleagues. “It does, doesn’t it? Asks Thomas Langmann. And these are just tests. I’m carrying this project, I love it” he rejoices when he addresses the Parisian.
As for the cost of this show, it amounts to several million euros. It is to say the show which is preparing and what wishes to offer Thomas Langmann to the fans. “It’s a 50 million dollar show (about 45 million euros). I’m going to do Piaf’s whole life, with Cerdan, Aznavour, Montand, Brel, the sets of Paris… The people who will attend the show will have an outfit in their hotel room and will live an evening like at Carnegie Hall”explains the director before concluding by praising the chosen artist: “The gateway to this project is Zaz. As Vincent Cassel was the gateway to the biopic on Mesrine. She is a wonderful artist”.
