(Lusaka) Twenty-four people, members of a Zambian church, died on Saturday in the collision between their bus and a truck in the south of the country, announced the police.
The bus, which made the journey between Chongwe district (42 km east of the capital Lusaka) and Siavonga district (almost 195 km south-east of Lusaka), carried 35 passengers who were going to a service religious.
Twelve other people, including the driver, were seriously injured.
“The deceased have been identified as 23 women and one man, while the injured are eight men and four women,” police spokesman Danny Mwale said in a statement.
Fatal road accidents are common in Zambia due to damaged roads and poor driving habits.
