Zaidies | Smoked salmon in Mile End

Since the arrival of December, somewhere in Mile End, ice cream has given way to smoked salmon. The local Ripples, at the corner of rue Jeanne-Mance and rue Saint-Viateur Ouest, has been taken over by the pop-up restaurant Zaidies for the winter.

Owner Jake Greenberg went into business after finding himself out of a job at the start of the pandemic.

Zaidies was the name of the hotel restaurant that once belonged to his great-grandparents, in Sainte-Agathe. The restaurant is long gone, but the name now lives on, along with the original logo that once appeared on the menu.

You can get smoked salmon there — Jake’s father’s recipe — but also small dishes on the take-out menu: smoked salmon and schmear bagel (lemon-based cream cheese), smoked salmon chowder , latkes… Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or while supplies last.

If you want to avoid travel, you can also order smoked salmon products online (except dishes), which are delivered on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
