“I am honored to serve you. These are the most beautiful moments of my life”, launched, emotional, the leader bloquiste to the crowd which chanted his name.
Around 350 delegates voted, including the 32 members of the House of Commons. The results of the poll were announced on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. at the Centrexpo Cogeco in Drummondville.
The dean of the Bloc Québécois, Louis Plamondon, believes that Yves-François Blanchet “literally saved the party” in 2019, when the party was going through dark times and had no more money.
Blanchet’s arrival at the head of the Bloc Québécois raised $300,000 in one week, he recalls.
“You have demonstrated that we have rebuilt, together, a machine worthy of the greatest years of the sovereignist movement and the Bloc Québécois”, expressed Mr. Blanchet to the hundreds of activists gathered in the plenary room.
Despite a recovery after the trough of the 2010s, which was the fourth official opposition group, the Bloc Québécois obtained, in 2021, the same result as in 2019: 32 seats, two less than the Liberals.
The figures from various polls in the latest are looking good.
In the morning, Yves-François Blanchet delivered a speech in which he called for the unity of sovereignists and defended everything that moves in Ottawa.
The delegates also chose Suzanne Proulx, elected PQ from 2012 to 2014, as president of the National Council of the Bloc Québécois, replacing Johanne Deschamps, who represented the colors of the Bloc from 2004 to 2011.
