Yvelines: inmates of Bois-d’Arcy prison repair second-hand toys

AT on Christmas Eve, head to the prison of Bois-d’Arcy (Yvelines) in the Paris region, where some inmates restore second-hand toys. Thanks to this workshop, three men are preparing their reintegration. It’s Unot a rare word, in a place that is difficult to access.

Behind barbed wire, the future is often filled with uncertainty. In prison, the days are counted and alike, and sometimes the convicts ask themselves this question: how to prepare after ? AT the remand center of Bois-d’Arcy (Yvelines), in the Paris region, there are 960 prisoners. This is almost twice as much as the planned reception capacity. Some find a place in the workshop. Work 5 days a week that inmates will be able to enhance when they leave.

One of them, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been imprisoned for 44 months. Every day, he repairs dozens of second-hand toys. He is allowed to leave his cell to find his tools and try to forget his daily life. “It’s a deep breath. The most important thing when you are in prison, he said, it is to take care as much as possible. Here, 4 inmates collect toys from associations and individuals, intended for the dumpster, to repackage them. The initiative is led by two friends, including Jacques Grimont, workshop co-founder Yoti, which every day finds its employees behind the doors of the prison. The workshop activity should continue after the holidays. In the coming weeks, two additional detainees could strengthen the workforce.
