(OTTAWA) There is no indication that the flying objects that were shot down over the Yukon and Lake Huron in February were affiliated with foreign countries, according to National Defense Minister Anita Anand.
The minister, however, did not advance on the origin of these two objects, nor on that of a third object, shot down off the coast of Alaska, since the wrecks have not been found.
Mme Anand made the statement Tuesday during his testimony before the House of Commons Committee on National Defense. She testified alongside senior military officials.
The three flying objects were shot down in turn between February 10 and 12, just days after another object, dubbed a ‘Chinese spy balloon’ by the United States, was shot down off the coast of Carolina from South.
The Canadian and American authorities had already indicated that they suspected that these objects were balloons, but that they did not pose a risk to national security.
Mme Anand was also asked about reports that Chinese monitoring buoys have been recovered from Canada’s Arctic waters, but she would not comment on the matter for national security reasons.
