When you are followed by millions of fans, the slightest mistake is immediately noticed and the consequences can be dramatic. The proof, with the YouTuber Squeezie
. The French videographer, with more than 18 million subscribers on YouTube, sparked controversy on Thursday September 21, 2023. Particularly because of the use of the Koran to illustrate his latest video devoted to the rules of golf.
In his video titled “The worst golfer in history”, the man behind the GP Explorer used an image from the sacred text of Islam to explain the rules of the sport. This did not fail to arouse reactions among Internet users. Following this controversy, the YouTuber who attacked Thierry Ardisson decided to remove the image in question from his video. However, some critics believe that this is a “error” deliberate on the part of the editor of Squeezie, or even an inappropriate play on words playing on the double meaning of the word “golf” (“Gulf”).

In the midst of controversy, Squeezie apologizes and explains himself
Fortunately, some followers of the videographer tried to defend him by explaining that when you search “regulation”In royalty-free image banks, it is possible to come across visuals illustrating the Koran. While the man at the center of the controversy had not yet spoken out until now, he finally spoke this Wednesday, September 27. Squeezie apologized and explained the origin of this “error”, as well as that of its editor.
“My Muslim Squeezos, I owe you an explanation anyway. About what happened. I received some very kind messages from Muslim Squeezos who said to me ‘hey Squeezie I’ve been watching your videos for a while, what’s the Koran in the video and to say that it’s a golf rule?’… terrible “he confided initially, before explaining: “So the explanation is extremely stupid, it is much less crazy than all the conspiracy theories popping up everywhere. There are three of us who saw the video before it came out, no one recognized that it was the Koran. No one saw in this video that this ‘ancient and beautiful’ book was in fact the Koran… There are three of us who missed it. It’s just that the main editor wanted to illustrate the rules of golf with a beautiful, thick, old book, as if the rules of golf were something crazy while in the video we only make fun of golf and the organizers of the British Open and we found this contrast funny.” Hoping that these apologies and explanations will help calm the situation.
