This Tuesday, May 3, Matthieu Delormeau exploded on the set. The reason ? The fact that Russian athletes are excluded from competitions because of the conflict in Ukraine. Recently, the organizers of the Wimbledon tennis tournament announced that Russian tennis players would be excluded. A decision not understood by Rafael Nadal, Cyril Hanouna and Matthieu Delormeau but supported by Gilles Verdez.
Fatou’s future husband showed his approval, saying that if the players didn’t make it clear that they were against Russian military operations on Ukrainian territory, they didn’t deserve to play matches. It didn’t take more for Matthieu Delormeau to come out of his hinges: “What do you want them to do? Would you go face to face with Putin, a guy who would put you in the gulag directly? You would open your big mouth less, I can tell you!“
Matthieu Delormeau continued: “It’s easy to play it when you’re in France, in a free country, to be a rebel in a country where you can do everything. You can even criticize Emmanuel Macron, nothing will happen to you!” For Gilles Verdez, no doubt: “These big players, they serve the regime, they are regime propagandists. As long as they don’t sign saying ‘I condemn the war’, they support the regime. They are oligarchs, they must be fired!“
Faced with such a speech, Matthieu Delormeau tried to put Gilles Verdez in the place of the many athletes concerned by this exclusion: “It would put their family in danger! Would you put your family in danger? If they sign the paper, their family may have reprisals there and you, your thing, is to say that they have no family!“Gilles Verdez has not changed his position, however:”So they don’t play! Since they can’t sign the paper, they don’t play. If they don’t say it, it’s because they support the regime.” A debate concluded by Matthieu Delormeau: “We’re going around in circles, you’re completely stupid!“Not sure that he will be invited to the wedding of Gilles and Fatou.
