Simone, the journey of the century by Olivier Dahan
Simone, the journey of the century, recounts the incredible destiny of Simone Veil, her childhood, her political battles and her tragedies. It is the epic and intimate portrait of a woman with an extraordinary career who has shaken up her time by defending a humanist message that is still very topical.
Simone Veil lived a happy childhood punctuated by holidays on the shores of the Mediterranean before being deported at the age of 16 with her family to Auschwitz during the Second World War. The teenager will lose her parents and her brother in the death camps, but like her, her two sisters will return alive from Poland.
Simone Veil was appointed Minister of Health in 1974, she was 47 years old. We owe him in particular the decriminalization of abortion in 1975, or free and free contraception in family planning centers. In 1979, she was the first woman to be appointed head of the European Parliament. Between 2001 and 2007, she chaired the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah.
Simone Veil died on June 30, 2017, and has been resting since 2018, with her husband Antoine, at the Panthéon.
