Boxer Simiso Buthelezi died overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, a few days after a fight held in South Africa, where he was from.
On Sunday, Buthelezi, just 24, looked set to win a 10-round duel against compatriot Siphesihle Mntungwa when he began, in a very strange way, to deliver blows in the air. The video of the scene, showing the referee stopping the confrontation without delay, has also gone around the world.
However, as confirmed in a press release issued jointly by Boxing South Africa and the family of the deceased, Buthelezi suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and succumbed to this injury.
The South African Boxing Federation has already announced an independent inquiry into the death. According to the specialist website boxrec.com. Buthelezi was in his fifth professional boxing fight and he had won the first four.
