“You will know things that no one knows”, accused by the producer of “L’instit” of being the opposite of his character in real life, Gérard Klein 10 years later in “TPMP people”!

Who would’ve believed that ? Gerard Klein is 80 years old! The one who brilliantly embodied the teacher Victor Novak on TF1 for 12 years was the guest of honor on the set of TPMP People this saturday 1er April 2023. And it hasn’t aged a bit! Away from TV sets since 2004, the year he decided to retire, Gérard Klein has always remained very discreet in the media ever since… Today, while he has written Gerard is still dreaming, a book where he looks back on the big and small moments of his life and career, the actor who was also a radio host and musician, decided to play transparency with Matthieu Delormeau. With a smile always full of charm! Curious, the presenter and the columnists want to know more about his leading role in The Institute, television series that is embedded in the hearts of the public. And Gérard Klein is quick to explain the difficulties that surrounded his commitment. At the base of its pitfalls? Producer Pierre Grimblat!

François Mitterrand insisted on the creation of “L’Institut”

Matthieu Delormeau recalls from memory what the latter would have said about the actor at the time of the series: “Roughly speaking, Pierre Grimblat said: he is the opposite of the series, he is not generous, he is not nice… he’s not a good person”. If he assures that he does not blame the producer, the actor explains that at the base the latter did not want to hire him: “to make a long story short, he didn’t want me in this series, he wanted Stévenin (Jean-François, editor’s note), but he didn’t want to. So Grimblat said to director François Lucciani…” And Gérard Klein to take a break to reveal the real story: “I tell you all, in fact it was François Lucciani who invented the series, who created the character. He is a man of integrity, of the left… and Pierre Grimblat – and there you will know things that no one knows!– really sent him on the roses… your shit! he said, okay? And then, there was François Mitterrand who wanted the Institute and Pierre called François back and he said to him again ‘show me your shit’. And there Lucciani presented his first episode and it was perfect! And he did L’Institut. But Pierre he didn’t want me, he said to François Lucciani: ‘no, I don’t want Gérard, he’s not an actor!’ And the actor concludes with a broad smile: “That’s the best compliment anyone can give me!”.
