These are the wise words of my fifth grade elementary school students following the death of Karl Tremblay of the Cowboys Fringants. Sitting in front of my students, I am unable to say a single word, overcome by an overflow of emotions.
Seeing me trapped in an obvious sadness, in unison, my students said to me, with exemplary tenderness: “You can cry, Mr. François! »
At the height of my fifties, I finally break down to be able to release a few tears in front of them. What a relief ! After more than 30 years in teaching, it is the most beautiful and above all the most touching life lesson that my students have given me; or that of being in the truth!
Thanks to them, I will be able to pursue in complete freedom one of my greatest missions that I gave myself in teaching; or that of making our Quebec songwriters and performers known through dictations with holes. Weekly meeting long awaited and so appreciated by my students.
With our throats tight, accompanied by Les Cowboys Fringants, we let ourselves be lulled by the essential song Shooting Starswhich had, on this day of national mourning, a powerful symbolic value.
On behalf of my students and mine, thank you to Karl, who will always remain alive in our hearts, and thank you to his wonderful Cowboys for sweetening our days with your touching and powerful songs! Your songs will always stay alive!
