In a report presented Thursday, November 25, the UN figures at 377,000 the number of victims of the war in Yemen, in seven years. The conflict pits the government against the rebels houthis.
It is a war that takes place far from the cameras and yet it is the biggest humanitarian disaster in the world according to the UN. The United Nations has just released a damning report. By the end of 2021, the war will have killed 377,000, including 150,000 killed in action and 277,000 due starvation and disease. Yemen has been a country torn apart for seven years.
Western Yemen is in rebel hands houthis, allies of Iran, and ballast of country is in the hands of loyalist forces, supported by Saudi Arabia. Children are the first victims of these bloody battles. According to the UN, in Yemen, a child under the age of five dies every nine minutes. In a hospital run by Médecins sans frontières, the staff is overwhelmed. “Every month, 400 patients arrive at the malnutrition service”, says a member of the NGO.
