The environmental candidate was invited to the set of the France 2 program “Elysée 2022” with four other competitors, five days before the first round.
“What is the effective environmentalist vote on the evening of the first round?” The question was asked to Yannick Jadot on the set of the program “Elysée 2022” on France 2, Tuesday April 5. The EELV candidate’s program is judged by the association Les Shifters, a specialist in energy transition, with that of Jean-Luc Mélenchon as “close” to respecting the Paris climate agreement. Still, the leader of rebellious France is credited with 16.5% of voting intentions, according to the latest polls, when Yannick Jadot peaks at 5.5%.
“Ecology is inseparable from democracy”
“There is no useful vote, (…) you have to vote for your convictions, for efficiency. It’s the environmentalist vote on Sunday”replied the person concerned. “I’m not saying that the polls don’t indicate trends, but I think that when there are 40% of French people who are undecided, a lot will happen on Sunday”he continued.
“And then ecology, for me, is inseparable from democracy. I don’t want green interventionismunderlined the environmentalist candidate. I want the living forces of the country to be mobilized and to bring this country together around the climate transition. Without detailing the differences between his program and that of Jean-Luc Mélenchon on ecology, Yannick Jadot ensures that he does not join his far-left rival on the “principles” and “values”.
