France Bleu Nord: Do you find ecology one of the concerns of the French in this campaign where we talk a lot about purchasing power?
Marine Tondelier: Obviously, people are well aware that the children born today will be 30 years old in 2050 and that we cannot guarantee whether the planet will still be habitable. Although, of course, all eyes are also on the Ukrainian conflict. It nevertheless recalls many environmental issues: pacifism, the necessary food and energy independence and the safety of nuclear power plants.
Among the consequences of this war, there is soaring fuel prices. What does Yannick Jadot offer apart from fewer cars?
We are not going to forcibly suppress cars, especially not in rural areas. What we want is to encourage daily public transport with 4 billion per year to reopen and maintain the small lines. We also offer a fuel voucher of 400 euros for the people most exposed to fuel poverty.
The inadequacy of energy self-sufficiency policies for decades has led to great dependency and is now trapping the most precarious French people.
Shutting down nuclear reactors as they age is one of your priorities. In concrete terms, what does that mean for Gravelines, for example? When are you closing it?
Our objective is to massively develop renewable energies. I remind you that France has the dunce cap at European level in the field. As they are deployed, we will shut down nuclear power plants but we are not the candidates for the black out !
According to the latest Ipsos-Sopra Steria poll for Radio France, published Monday, we see a slight tremor for Yannick Jadot at 6.5%. But he remains far from the top three between Macron, Le Pen and Mélenchon. Do you regret that a union did not take place on the left?
We have our candidate, who is the only one to be 100% environmentalist. Yannick Jadot is also clear on all subjects including vis-à-vis Russian propaganda and the Ukrainian conflict. Above all, we look at the polls with distance because in 2019, at the time of the European elections, Yannick Jadot was given 6.5% on the morning of the election and we finished at more than 13%.
Pollsters are finding it increasingly difficult to determine the Green vote, which is a vote of the heart and often at the last moment. I also think that, given what is looming, Emmanuel Macron will most certainly be in the second round, so voters will no doubt want to treat themselves in the first round with a useful vote for the planet with Yannick Jadot.
