The case took a new turn as revealed by AFP on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. Yann Moix was sentenced on appeal for having defamed his brother alexanderwhich he called “very, very close“of the extreme right, according to a judgment.
The case dates back to August 2019. During his appearance on the show We are not in bedon France 2, Yann Moix (54 years old) had notably indicated that his little brother Alexandre (49 years old) had approached the far right at some point in his life and that he continued to “follow this movement“. Words he also made in Balance your post (C8) in November of the same year. He had further claimed that his brother was “very close to neo-Nazi groups“. The straw that broke the camel’s back for his brother who then decided to file a complaint against the writer and director. In 2021, the latter was released at first instance. But on October 13, he was ordered by the Paris Court of Appeal to pay 1,000 euros in damages and 3,000 euros in legal costs for the plaintiff. The Court of Appeal accepted two remarks of a defamatory nature:My brother was very, very close to neo-Nazi groups“, and “It was he, Alexandre Moix, who was close to far-right groups“. For the time being, the main interested party has not reacted.
Relations between the two men have been difficult since childhood. And they got tougher when they came outOrleans in 2019, a book in which Yann Moix assures that he suffered violence from his parents. Furious, his father had stepped up to completely deny his accusations. He was quickly supported by Alexandre Moix. He notably confided that his older brother would have tortured him throughout his childhood. And when the defamatory remarks for which his brother was finally convicted were made, he asked for an open letter to be read in We are not in bed. “During the show We are not in bed August 31, my brother, Yann Moix, said that I would have ‘approached the extreme right at some point in my life’ and that I would ‘continue to frequent’ this movement today. Furthermore, he speculated that I would have provided ‘ill-intentioned far-right people’ with his anti-Semitic and Holocaust-denying texts and cartoons and that thus I would have had a role to play in his recent setbacks. I consider these assertions to be serious and totally unfounded and therefore unacceptable. Yann Moix knows nothing about me. My opinions, my life, everything is foreign to him and that’s fine. Given the seriousness of this case, there can be no compromise with the truth“, had therefore read the presenter Laurent Ruquier, in September 2019.
