Macronist MP Yaël Braun-Pivet was re-elected on Thursday, July 18, as President of the National Assembly. She received the votes of Republican MPs in exchange, presumably, for several key positions in the Assembly.
Yaël Braun-Pivet has been re-elected as President of the National Assembly. After three uncertain rounds, she is 13 votes ahead of the communist André Chassaigne. She promises to preside while taking into account the new balance of power. Her election was made possible in particular thanks to the vote of the 47 right-wing deputies. Éric Woerth, a former LR elected official who moved to Ensemble (ex-Renaissance), wants to see in this support the possibility of a future coalition.
The left denounces manipulation or even a “denial of democracy”. She believes that the maneuvers of the outgoing majority and the right prevent her from accessing the government. Does Yaël Braun-Pivet’s victory presage the arrival of a Macronist Prime Minister supported by LR? Possible. Emmanuel Macron declared that he would take into account the election to the perch when appointing the Prime Minister.
