XV of France – UBB: “I know that the friends will do the job” assures Maxime Lucu

If the Union has still not won this away season, she has shown real progress
on the lawn of the Michelin stadium where his mind and his discipline allowed him to stand up to ASM and come close to a big blow. Maxime Lucu and his international teammates join Marcoussis with a sense of accomplishment. And the scrum-half wants to sink his teeth into the fall tests. Interview.

Character and discipline for two good points in the end?

Maxime Lucu : It’s a very good place to come and test yourself on the state of mind. We knew that Clermont was on a very positive dynamic and that they were going to try to hurt us because we took a lot of points, especially on defensive errors. Today the state of mind was excellent, we never let go even when we got pierced. This defensive sequence at 20-16 where we don’t take a try and on the contrary behind we recover the ball and we score by Madosh (editor’s note: Tambwe), it is more than positive. We were looking for that at the start of the season. This is the real UBB.

Did you manage to keep your cool?

We are gaining momentum, we feel better and better in the collective, in the system of play. There were just sequences that were easy to correct, which did not require talent. That’s what we came here looking for.

I’m happy to go live these moments hoping that we continue to do what we did very well in 2021-2022

Are you jumping off the UBB train to join the France team, is it still heartbreaking?

Obviously, it’s complicated to let go of friends, we know that these are difficult times when there are a lot of departures. But personally, it’s good for us, going to the France team is always a bonus and extraordinary moments. I know the guys will do the job. We have a big reception on Sunday against Toulon where we will have to confirm the two points taken here. It is certain that there will be two complicated matches (editor’s note: against the RCT and in Pau) with these departures but we are not the only ones affected.

Maxime Lucu will again cross paths with the Japanese next month.

In what state of mind do you approach this tour?

With great pride, appetite and enthusiasm. We are going to measure ourselves against what is being done very well in the nations of the south. I’m happy to find this group with whom I had great moments last season. You have to savor it, don’t ask questions. I wondered too much about it when I went up there. Now that I have had my first jerseys, I am happy to go and experience these moments, hoping that we continue to do what we did very well in 2021-2022.

How do you go from the role of holder at the UBB to that of substitute with the XV of France?

It is clear in my head, with the staff. We go there to get as much playing time as possible. There is Antoine (note: Dupont) who is the indisputable holder, we have to work in complementarity. As long as I continue to integrate the 23, I will be the happiest. And I will give my all during the minutes that are given to me.
