Xiberoots is one of the musical phenomena of recent years, a group of souletin friends, followers of reggae and ragga, who formed their group, wrote songs, and gave lots of concerts.
They touched the public, made fans, and finally released a debut album, “Xiberoots”, in early 2020.
The list of concerts then grew, propelling Xiberoots far beyond Soule.
In 2021, the second album, “Honki Jina”, confirms the popular success of the group.
In his texts, Xiberoots evokes the political situation of the Basque Country, Palestine, prisoners, confinement, but also Soule, Xiberoa, to which they are very attached.
“Agur Xiberoa”, popular anthem revisited in a reggae way
“Agur Xiberoa” is an emblematic song, which alone sums up the strong ties that unite the inhabitants of the smallest Basque province to their land, their ancestral roots. It was the poet Piarres Bordaçarre, known as “Etxahun Iruri”, who composed it in 1946.
This title, originally sung a cappella, evokes the exodus of Souletine youth to the big cities, and in particular Paris, with a view to a better life; these young people sometimes find a good job there, a good situation, but only dream of their mountains, the Pic d’Orhy, while wiping away their tears.
It is a very strong, very popular text, which Xiberoots has revisited in a reggae way: an assumed way of paying homage to the great poets of the past, who still live through the energy of youth.
