Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G Review: In-Depth Analysis of Features and Performance

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 14 5G offers a stylish design, featuring flat edges and a rounded back, along with a solid camera setup and satisfactory display performance. Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7025 Ultra processor and running on Android 14, it provides good general performance but may struggle with demanding games. With a competitive price point, this smartphone is an appealing option for budget-conscious consumers seeking essential features without compromise.

Introduction to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G

Having thoroughly evaluated the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ and the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, we now turn our attention to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G. This model offers a different experience compared to its more expensive sibling, the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, which is priced at €130 higher. In this article, we will explore whether the Redmi Note 14 5G can still deliver a compelling performance-to-price ratio and if it stands out as a worthy option in its price category.

Design and Build Quality

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G showcases a unique design that blends features from its predecessors. It boasts flat edges reminiscent of the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G while incorporating the rounded back design seen in the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G. This combination results in a stylish and modern appearance.

In terms of the camera layout, the design leans more towards the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, with three lenses arranged in a nearly square configuration at the top left corner. Although this design may compromise stability when placed on a flat surface, it does not significantly affect usability.

Measuring 16.2 x 7.6 x 0.8 cm and weighing 190 grams, the Redmi Note 14 5G is available in black, green, and purple. Its plastic back features a soft matte finish that minimizes fingerprints. The front of the device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which, while less durable than the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 found on the Pro model, still offers reasonable protection. Users may want to consider a screen protector, as visible scratches can appear relatively quickly with regular use.

With an IP64 certification, this smartphone is dustproof but not fully waterproof, allowing for safe use in light rain.

Display Performance

The display of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G is a standard 6.67-inch OLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, which falls short compared to the 2712 x 1220 pixels of the Pro model. The screen supports a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz, automatically adjusting based on the application’s requirements, with options for manual settings as well.

While the advertised maximum brightness reaches 1200 nits, our testing revealed a default brightness of approximately 455 nits, peaking around 1044 nits in SDR mode. These numbers are average for a mid-range smartphone, but the color accuracy is quite satisfactory, with a neutral color temperature and a Delta E measurement indicating decent color fidelity.

However, the display’s color coverage is limited, reproducing only 76% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Despite this, the overall visual experience remains pleasing for day-to-day tasks.

Software and Performance

Running on Android 14 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS overlay, the Redmi Note 14 5G promises four years of system updates and six years of security updates. Although it lacks the advanced AI features of the Pro model, it does offer basic AI tools for photo editing, including object removal and sky modification.

Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7025 Ultra processor, the Redmi Note 14 5G features 8 GB of RAM, providing sufficient performance for general usage such as web browsing and social media. However, gamers may find the GPU underwhelming, as it struggles with demanding titles like Fortnite, which can be installed on higher-end models.

Camera Capabilities

The rear camera setup includes three lenses, primarily focused on wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle photography, with a third lens dedicated to macro shots. The main 108-megapixel sensor is equipped with optical image stabilization, enhancing photo quality and reducing blurriness.

Overall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G delivers a solid performance in various aspects, from design to camera capabilities. For those seeking a budget-friendly smartphone without sacrificing essential features, this model presents a compelling choice in today’s market.
