Monday May 6, Emmanuel Macron received the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, at the Élysée Palace. Accompanied by the president of the European Commission, discussions revolved around trade disagreements between China, France and Europe. In particular, there was discussion of “fair rules”, namely the end of subsidies to Chinese companies. China is accused of industrial overproduction, but Xi Jinping does not see it that way. Indeed, later in the morning, Beijing (China) published a press release announcing that “China’s so-called overcapacity problem does not exist”.

Call for a worldwide truce

At Les Invalides, in Paris, dozens of people greeted the Chinese president’s convoy. During a ceremony with great fanfare, Xi Jinping received the honors in the Cour des Invalides. The opportunity to address the other big issue of this state trip: the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. The two countries called a worldwide truce ahead of the Paris Olympics.
