The president of the Hauts-de-France region Xavier Bertrand pointed out by name the responsibility of eight insurance companies, which he accused of not helping quickly enough the victims of the floods in Pas-de-Calais between November and January, reports France Bleu Nord, Thursday March 28.
During this press conference, Xavier Bertrand named Direct Assurance, Groupama, GAN Assurances, CIC, MAAF, GMF, Monceau Assurances, as well as BPCE Assurance, accusing these eight insurance companies of not compensating the victims. The president of the region even threatens, if there is no progress within eight days, to surrender “at headquarters” of these insurances, “with the collectives and with the insured to obtain the answer and so that they can obtain the information they need”.
“Things are not moving fast enough”continued Xavier Bertrand. “I don’t understand why today, in our country, there is such inertia on the settlement of disaster victims’ cases.”
The Pas-de-Calais department experienced three episodes of flooding between November and January. Unprecedented rains in the fall, almost three times normal, led to three weeks of flooding from November 7, then further flooding in January when it started to rain again.
