“Bi Mundu”, in tribute to sailors who have left around the world

Since 2019, the Elkano Foundation de Getaria works to disseminate information, based on historical facts, on the first circumnavigation of the globe made by boat in 1522 by the sailor from Getaria, Juan Sebastian Elkano.
The Foundation wanted to make this feat known to younger generations, and asked Xabi Solano to create a specific song.
Xabi solano composed the music, on a text by his lifelong friend, Jon Garmendia “Txuriya”.
A title inspired by the maritime journey, the encounter with other cultures, and which pays homage to the 34 Basque sailors, who spoke to each other in Basque, set off into the unknown, in search of a maritime route to the west. , during this famous expedition led in 1519 by Fernand Magellan (who died in the Philippines in 1521), and completed by Juan Sebastian Elkano, who landed in Seville on September 8, 1522.
