Wyndham Championship | The weather complicates the existence of golfers

(Greensboro) The largest continent of golfers to cross the qualifying threshold since the PGA Tour established the top-65 barrier and those tied then two interruptions to play due to storms in the region ensured that it was impossible to complete the third round of the Wyndham PGA Championship on Saturday.

So the last day of the 2021-2022 PGA calendar, Sunday, promises to be a long one.

Thanks to an approach shot from 147 yards that ended its trajectory directly in the cut, at 11e hole, for an eagle, the American Brandon Wu climbed to the top of the rankings, tied with the South Korean Sungjae Im, with records of 12 under par. Both golfers had time to complete the first 11 holes.

John Huh and Joohyung Kim followed one step behind.

Only 12 players managed to play the 18 holes on Saturday. One of them, Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat, had a 63 card, seven under par, for a cumulative score of 200, 10 under par.

Canadian Taylor Pendrith also had time to finish his round, which he did with a score of 65, for an overall record of 203, seven under par.

His compatriots Corey Conners (-3), Nick Taylor (-1), Michael Gligic (-1) and Adam Svenssen (par par) will all complete their third round on Sunday.

This third round should start again at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The qualifying threshold remained at 139, one under par, opening the door to the weekend’s two rounds to a grand total of 87 golfers.

We have to go back to the Wells Fargo Championship in 2018 to find as many golfers admitted for the two final rounds.

That was before PGA executives crafted the new policy limiting the top 65 and those tied to qualifying for the third and fourth rounds of a tournament.
