Wuambushu II, maritime iron curtain, Gérald Darmanin outlines his visit to Mayotte this Sunday

The Minister of the Interior and Overseas is visiting Mayotte this Sunday. In a video on social networks, he provided the outlines of his announcements while the department has been living at the pace of roadblocks for almost three weeks.

In a video addressed to the Mahorais, Gérald Darmanin announced several measures to meet the expectations of the social movement that began almost three weeks ago.

The Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories first confirmed the dismantling of the illegal camp located within the Cavani departmental stadium. Those who have the right to asylum will “to be able to be repatriated to France”. For those who have had their asylum application refused, “irregular on the national territory, they must be, within the next few hours, placed under house arrest or integrated into the CRA for immediate expulsion” to their countries of origin without specifying the terms with the countries concerned.

He also announced the establishment of Operation Wuambushu II, using the term Wuambushu for the first time. “There will be more resources for law enforcement and justice to be able to fight against this foreign delinquency which is ruining the lives of our fellow citizens.”

Gérald Darmanin intends to bring down the networks linked to illegal immigration, in particular those who profit from it and who can be found “sometimes in good Mahorese society”. The Minister also wishes to create a “iron curtain in the water soon at the request of the President of the Republic” to prevent illegal immigration to Mayotte.

On the other hand, Gérald Darmanin did not address the abolition of the territorialized residence card. This is the major demand from members of the protest forces and citizen collectives to stop the social movement that began on January 22. “Without the repeal of this law, the blockades will continue” announces Saïd Mouhoudhoiri, spokesperson for the citizens’ collective of Mayotte.

Gérald Darmanin arrives in Mayotte on Sunday at 9 a.m. and will leave in the evening.
