WTA Ranking | Titled in Cincinnati, Sabalenka returns to 2nd place behind Swiatek

(Paris) Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka took advantage of her victory in Cincinnati to regain the world number two spot at the expense of American Coco Gauff, but still a good distance behind the queen of the WTA circuit, Polish Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka, 26, who beat American Jessica Pegula (6^e) on Monday in the final in Ohio, even takes a comfortable lead over Gauff, less than a week before the US Open, where the latter will have to defend the points of her first Grand Slam title won last year.

Although beaten in the semi-final of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati by Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek maintains a solid cushion at the top of a ranking that she has dominated without interruption for almost 10 months.

Russian Diana Schnaider, 20, achieves her best ranking of her career, moving up two places to 18th^e rank.
