(Paris) Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka took advantage of her victory in Cincinnati to regain the world number two spot at the expense of American Coco Gauff, but still a good distance behind the queen of the WTA circuit, Polish Iga Swiatek.
Sabalenka, 26, who beat American Jessica Pegula (6e) on Monday in the final in Ohio, even takes a comfortable lead over Gauff, less than a week before the US Open, where the latter will have to defend the points of her first Grand Slam title won last year.
Although beaten in the semi-final of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati by Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek maintains a solid cushion at the top of a ranking that she has dominated without interruption for almost 10 months.
Russian Diana Schnaider, 20, achieves her best ranking of her career, moving up two places to 18the rank.
