WTA: Bouchard is beaten in the second round at the Guadalaraja Open

Eugenie Bouchard was defeated 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 by Jeļena Ostapenko in the second round in Guadalaraja on Wednesday.

The Canadian had all five aces in the match, but the Latvian had an 8-7 breakout advantage.

Ranked 430ethe Westmount player faced in Ostapenko the 12e first in the series.

Ostapenko was the queen of Roland-Garros in 2017.

It was their first encounter.

The 28-year-old Bouchard was in the second round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in more than three years.

In the round of 16, Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu, 59ewill face Jessica Pegula or Elena Rybakina, the reigning Wimbledon champion.

American Pegula is the third seed.

In the second round of doubles, Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa and Giuliana Olmos of Mexico won 6-0, 6-3 over Nadiya Kichenok and Kimberley Zimmermann.

Dabrowski and Olmos are the fourth seeds.
