(Toronto) The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) says its members have voted in favor of a strike if negotiators do not reach an agreement with the Canadian Association of Media Producers.
The WGC, which represents more than 2,500 English-speaking Canadian screenwriters, says 96.5% of those who voted were in favor of authorizing a strike, and a record 70.2% of eligible voters voted. vote.
A strike authorization vote does not necessarily mean that a union will go on strike, it simply gives them the option if negotiations fail.
The Canadian Association of Media Producers says it will remain at the negotiating table.
The two sides began negotiating six months ago and their Independent Production Agreement expired on December 31, 2023.
The Canadian Media Producers Association is a national advocacy organization for independent film, television and digital content producers, while the WGC represents screenwriters.
