Writer Lori Saint-Martin has died

Quebec novelist and essayist Lori Saint-Martin died on Saturday at the age of 63, said Éditions du Boréal.

“It is with dismay and immense sorrow that we learned this morning that Lori Saint-Martin died suddenly in Paris in the last few hours,” the publishing house said in a statement in the morning.

Born in Kitchener, Ontario, the writer has mainly made a career in Montreal, in French.

In addition to having published novels and collections of short stories, she has authored more than a hundred translations with her husband Paul Gagné, which has earned them several awards, including four Governor General’s Literary Awards.

Mme Saint-Martin has also had a career teaching feminist issues in literature, notably at the Institute for Feminist Research and Studies at UQAM.

She was also recognized as a member of the Royal Society of Canada and had just been admitted to the Académie des lettres du Québec.
