Since its release last Friday, the feature film Deadpool & Wolverine continues to electrify the box office and break records.
The film about the two superheroes, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as comic book characters, has reached the $550 million mark in worldwide receipts in five days. It has accumulated more than $261 million in North America after only five days of operation. In Quebec, it is number one at the box office last weekend with nearly $2.5 million. Of note, the comedy by René Richard Cyr, Our Sisters-in-lawis doing very well in Quebec. Our Sisters-in-law crossed the $2 million mark this week, less than a month after its release.
In the USA, Deadpool & Wolverine made the highest grossing R-rated film ever on Tuesday (and the 13th highest grossing R-rated film ever)e biggest of all time) with 25.3 million. Deadpool & Wolverine is already the fourth biggest domestic release of 2024, just behind Inside Out 2 ($615 million); Despicable Me 4 ($293 million); and Dune: Part II ($282 million).
At this rate, this franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will become in a few weeks the second film of the year to reach a billion dollars worldwide, after Inside Out 2 ($1.5 billion), and ahead of Dune: Part II (711 million), Despicable Me 4 (680 million) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (567 million), according to Variety.
