World Women’s Hockey | Finland takes bronze in Utica

(Utica) Finland beat the Czechs 3-2 in a shootout to win bronze at the women’s world hockey championship on Sunday.


Michelle Karvinen and Petra Nieminen scored in the deciding session for the winners.

In the shootout, Sanni Ahola stopped four out of five shots.

Finland returned to the podium after a second place in 2019. The country finished sixth in 2022 and fifth in 2023.

The Czechs won bronze in 2022 and 2023.

Karvinen and Viivi Vainikka were Finland’s regular scorers.

Ahola blocked 29 shots and her opposite number Klara Peslarova made 45 saves.

Klara Hymlarova was the only Czech to score in the shootout.

Denisa Krizova and Michaela Pejzlova hit the target in regular time.

The Czech Republic will host the 2025 edition of the tournament.
