(Utica) Sandra Abstreiter stopped 32 shots to lead Germany to a 1-0 win over Sweden on Monday at the Women’s World Hockey Championship.
With its victory, Germany (3-0-0) secured first place in Group B.
Franziska Feldmeier scored the only goal of the game midway through the third period.
Abstreiter signed her second career shutout at the Women’s World Hockey Championship, in addition to leading her country to its first shutout in its history against Sweden (3-1-0).
Sweden entered the duel having scored 17 goals in three games. Swedish goalkeeper Emma Soderberg blocked 23 shots against Germany.
Later on Monday, Finland (1-3-1) beat Switzerland 5-2.
Jenni Hiirikoski had a goal and three assists in the victory.
Lara Stalder and Sinja Leemann found the back of the net for Switzerland (0-3-0).
