World Swimming Championships | A third quarter that sinks Canadian polo players

The Canadian women’s water polo team will not be in the World Championships playoffs. On Sunday, the Canadians were defeated 10-7 by the Dutch. Coach David Paradelo’s side were in the middle of the game when the score was 3-3, except that everything came crashing down for them in the third quarter.

Axelle Crevier was the game’s first scorer after just over 2 minutes. The Dutch tied the game with 40 seconds left in the first quarter after a fine passing game, but Canada responded with 7 seconds left. do to regain the lead thanks to Verica Bakoc.

The second quarter was quieter with a goal on each side, including one from Laval’s Shae La Roche. Montreal goalkeeper Clara Vulpisi did a good job in front of the Canadian goal in addition to that of her teammates in defense who blocked several shots.

The tide turned in favor of the Dutch in the third quarter when they scored five straight goals to make it 8-3. Gurpreet Sohi gave the Canadians hope for an early comeback, but their opponents immediately replied to make it 9-4.

David Paradelo then kicked Verica Bakoc out of goal to replace her with Jessica Gaudreault with 2 minutes left in the third quarter.

The Ottawa goalkeeper limited the Dutch to just one goal until the end of the game, while her teammates were a bit more active on the attack. The lack of precision in the passes and shots on goal of the Canadian clan, however, did not allow the team to return to the game.

Kyra Christmas, Kindred Paul and Emma Wright were the other scorers for Canada, with Quebecer Amanda Amorosa also on the roster.

The Canadians will be back in the pool on Tuesday to play a 9-12 seeding match against Kazakhstan.
