World Refugee Day: the mass exodus of inhabitants in Venezuela, Chad receiving victims of the war in Sudan

In Venezuela, seven million inhabitants have left the country since 2015. A figure disputed by the government, and which is the consequence of a major economic, social and democratic crisis since the 2010s. This exodus first has consequences internal: lack of teachers, business leaders, qualified personnel and manpower in general. But the massive departure of Venezuelans also has consequences abroad, in the host countries. If they were initially organized to make life easier for migrants, we are seeing more and more rejection there, as in Chile, and a hardening of migration conditions, as in the United States.

Chad, for its part, has become since the start of the war in Sudan the African country which hosts the largest number of refugees on its soil in relation to its population. More than 150,000 victims of the conflict have already crossed the border from Darfur, adding to the 600,000 other refugees already present in Chad. In total, the country therefore hosts more than 750,000 exiles, the equivalent of 4% of its population. But to come to their aid, the means are sorely lacking, and the humanitarian workers are calling for urgent financial aid from the international community to avoid a major crisis in Chad.
