(Schaffhausen) Canadian Brad Gushue defeated Norwegian Magnus Ramsfjell 7-4 to secure a place in the playoffs for the World Men’s Curling Championship on Thursday morning.
Canada led 4-2 after four ends, after scoring deuces in the second and fourth ends, and added a point in the sixth, seventh and ninth ends.
Gushue and his St. John’s, NL quartet of Mark Nichols, EJ Harnden and Geoff Walker improved to 8-1. The representatives of the maple leaf are still in second place in the ranking of the preliminary phase bringing together 13 teams.
For his part, the Swede Niklas Edin still sits at the top at 9-0 after inflicting a 6-4 setback on the United States (4-5) in the morning.
Canada will face Sweden at the end of the day on Thursday.
The top six quartets in the preliminary phase rankings will advance to the playoffs, and the top two will automatically earn their place in the semi-finals. The small final and the final will be presented on Sunday.
