World Juniors | Sweden inflict a 6-0 correction on Austria

(Edmonton) Sweden joined the United States at the top of the Group B standings at the World Junior Hockey Championship on Friday with an unequivocal 6-0 win over Austria.

Emil Andrea (2-1) and Oskar Olausson (0-3) were the attacking leaders for Sweden (2-0-0-0), who edged Austria (0-0-2-0) 41- 14 in shots on goal.

Fabian Lysell and Isak Rosen also did their part with performances of one goal and one assist each.

Theodor Niederbach and Simon Edvinsson completed.

Calle Clang was credited with the shutout.

The United States (2-0-0-0) and Sweden will meet Sunday in a duel that could well determine the holder of the first place in Group B at the end of the preliminary phase.

Meanwhile, the United States will take on Austria on Saturday. Sweden will complete the preliminary round on Monday by taking on Germany.

In the only other game on Friday, Slovakia beat Latvia 3-2 in a penalty shootout. These two Group A teams were looking for their first victory since the start of the tournament.

Undefeated after its first two outings in Group A, Canada will play its next match on Saturday afternoon against Czechia (1-0-0-1).
