Daily Faceoff reporter Chris Peters first reported that the International Ice Hockey Federation (FIHG) decided to end the tournament after three days of competition after players from several teams had positive results at testing for COVID-19.
TSN hockey analyst Bob McKenzie, which owns the broadcast rights to the tournament, later confirmed the information Peters delivered.
The duel between Finland and Czechia on Wednesday, which was scheduled to start at 12 p.m. Edmonton time (2 p.m. in Quebec) at Rogers Place, was suddenly called off in the morning following a positive test in a Czech player.
Rumors later circulated that the match between Russia and Slovakia, also scheduled for Wednesday, was also going to be called off due to a positive test for the Russian team.
