(Ängelholm, Sweden) Owen Beck scored twice and Macklin Celebrini was sent off for a dangerous hit in Canada’s 6-2 win over Switzerland in a preseason game at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Beck, the only player from the 2023 winning team returning this season, scored the game-winning goal 28 seconds into the second. He closed out the scoring with a short-handed goal midway through the third.
Celebrini had two assists, but he received a major penalty and a game misconduct for giving away the boards at 12:55 of the second.
Conor Geekie scored a goal and added an assist. Matthew Poitras, Joey Savoie and Fraser Minten scored Canada’s other goals.
Jonas Taible and Miles Müller were the only ones to thwart Canadian goalkeeper Mathis Rousseau, who made 26 saves. His opposite numbers Alessio Beglieri and Lorin Grüter blocked 33 of the 39 shots directed against them.
Canada will play a final preparatory match on Saturday, against the United States. He will officially launch his tournament on Tuesday, against Finland, in Gothenburg.
