World Junior Championship | Switzerland causes surprise

Attilio Biasca scored 41 seconds into overtime in Game 1 of the World Junior Hockey Championship to give Switzerland a 3-2 win over Finland.




Biasca is part of the Halifax Mooseheads. This season, he has eight goals and 27 points with them in 28 games.

Lorenzo Canonica and Jeremy Jabola also scored for the Swiss (1-0-0).

Jonas Taibel had two assists and Kevin Pasche stopped 14 shots.

Konsta Kapanen and Kalle Vaisanen fought back, while Aku Koskenvuo made 24 saves.

During the last edition of the tournament, in August, the Finns (0-1-0) were beaten 3-2 in the final by Canada.

The Swedes and the Americans make a success of their comeback

The Swedes celebrate one of the goals scored against Austria.

In the second game of the day, Sweden beat Austria 11-0. Filip Bystedt and Isak Rosen both had two goals and an assist.

The Swedes (1-0-0) outshot 51-13. After taking a 2-0 lead after the first period, the Scandinavians exploded with six goals in the second period.

Carl Lindbom made 13 saves for a shutout and also had one assist.

Thomas Pfarrmaier stopped 23 of 29 shots in 30:28 of action before being retired in favor of Benedikt Oschgan, who allowed five goals on 22 shots for Austria (0-0-1).

Later, the mighty USA team defeated Latvia 5-2.

Luke Hughes, Red Savage, Chaz Lucius, Sean Behrens and Jimmy Snuggerud hit the target on the American side (1-0-0).

Anri Ravinskis and Niks Fenenko replied for Latvia (0-0-1).

Both teams failed to score in the first period and were tied 2-2 heading into the third period.
