World Junior Championship | Switzerland beat Finland in overtime

(Moncton) Attilio Biasca scored 41 seconds into overtime on Monday as the world junior hockey championship opened with Switzerland 3-2 over Finland.


Biasca is part of the Halifax Mooseheads. This season, he has eight goals and 27 points with them in 28 games.

Lorenzo Canonica and Jeremy Jabola also scored for the Swiss.

Jonas Taibel had two assists and Kevin Pasche stopped 14 shots.

Konsta Kapanen and Kalle Vaisanen fought back, while Aku Koskenvuo made 24 saves.

At the last edition of the tournament, in August, the Finns were beaten 3-2 in the final by Canada.

Austria face Sweden, after the Latvians will play against the United States.

Monday’s program will conclude with Canada against the Czech Republic, starting at 6:30 p.m.
