(Schaffhausen) Canada won the silver medal at the World Men’s Curling Championship on Sunday with a 6-5 loss to Sweden in the gold medal game.
The two teams entered the final end with a 5-5 tie on the board, but Niklas Edin had the hammer. He scored a decisive point to be crowned world champion for a seventh time.
Sweden quickly took the lead with two points in the second end and a steal of a point in the next.
Brad Gushue and his Newfoundland and Labrador team of Mark Nichols, E. J. Harnden and Geoff Walker came from behind. They notably scored two points in the ninth end, setting the table for a dramatic final end.
Gushue was participating in a fifth final in as many World Cup appearances. He won in 2017, but settled for silver four times.
Italy was also decorated with bronze thanks to a 7-6 victory against Scotland earlier.
