World Cup | Daniel Yule wins the slalom at Madonna di Campiglio

(Madonna Di Campiglio) Daniel Yule has become a true specialist in the icy and steep slalom course of Canalone Miramonti.

The Swiss skier won the evening event for a third time on Thursday, moving from fourth to first place thanks to a second perfect run.

Yule joined Alberto Tomba and Henrik Kristoffersen for second all-time wins at the prestigious race. Ingemar Stenmark tops the standings with five wins.

Three of Yule’s five career wins have come at Madonna di Campiglio. He also climbed to the top step of the podium in 2018 and 2020.

“I think I know a little romance with Madonna,” exclaimed Yule. The course here is spectacular and to be back on top after a few difficult seasons is an incredible feeling. »

Kristoffersen finished just 0.08 seconds behind Yule and settled for silver. Linus Strasser took third place, 0.18 seconds behind the winner.

Canadian Erik Read ranked 22e rank, 2.22 seconds from Yule.

Kristoffersen has been on the podium in four of his six races this season, but he is still looking for a first victory.

“I will continue to work. But it’s not so bad when you get on the podium,” acknowledged Kristoffersen.

Lucas Braathen, who was leading by nearly half a second after the first run, slipped to fourth after a second run that was a little too conservative.

“It’s a sprint and I didn’t keep going all the way to the end,” Braathen said. It’s a painful fourth place. »

Canadian Asher Jordan was eliminated after the first run. His compatriots Simon Fournier and Liam Wallace were unable to complete the first run.
