Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou welcomed the leaders who were looking to bring another World Cup final to the same Centenário stadium, in Montevideo, where it was played in the tournament’s first performance, in 1930. At the time , Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2.

Alejandro Domínguez, president of South American football body CONMEBOL, told a press conference that the bid “is the continent’s dream”.

“The hundred years[since the first World Cup]will only be reached once. And the tournament must come home, said Domínguez. We think that’s more than enough reason for FIFA to accept it as the sole bid. »[depuislapremièreCoupedumonde)neserontatteintsqu’uneseulefoisEtletournoidoitreveniràlamaisonadéclaréDomínguezNouspensonsquec’estuneraisonplusquesuffisantepourquelaFIFAacceptequeçadeviennelaseulecandidature »

The four South American nations began considering bids in 2017. Brazil hosted the World Cup in 2014.

FIFA leaders expect the 2030 pick to be made within two years. Qatar will host this year’s tournament, and the one in 2026 will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
