World Championships in Athletics | Emmanuel Korir becomes 800m world champion

(Eugene) Kenyan Emmanuel Korir, already an Olympic champion, won the 800m world championship title on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon.

Updated yesterday at 10:58 p.m.

In 1 min 43 s 71, Korir (27) beat the Algerian Djamel Sedjati (1 min 44.14) and the Canadian Marco Arop (1 min 44.28).

Korir broke away on the second lap after a rather “slow” first 400m.

The Kenyan sits his dominance on the half-lap. A complete runner, he had reached the final of the 2019 Worlds in the 400m (6e).

He follows in the footsteps of Kenyan 800m legend, double Olympic champion and world record holder David Rudisha, with whom he once trained when he was in the group of Irishman Colm O’Connell, before leaving for the United States.
