Work accident in Montreal: a worker crushed by a mechanical shovel

An elderly worker in his 40s suffered horrific injuries that raised fears for his life when a huge mechanical shovel ran over his body on Friday morning in the Outremont area of ​​Montreal.

The work accident occurred around 8 a.m. on the construction site of the Paul-Gérin-Lajoie secondary school expansion, near the intersection of rue Saint-Viateur and avenue de the Sword.

For reasons still unknown, the operator of a mechanical shovel ran over one of his colleagues, inflicting very serious injuries to his lower limbs.

The worker had “his legs and pelvis crushed by an excavator that was backing up on the construction site,” said Marie-Claude Normandin, head of communications for the Standards, Equity, Health and Safety Commission. occupational safety (CNESST).

The victim was rushed to hospital. His life would have been in danger for a while, but now there would be no fear for his life.

“The worker was conscious when he left by ambulance. According to the latest news, the worker’s condition is stable,” continued Ms. Normandin.

The scene was protected by the SPVM, while CNESST inspectors were dispatched to the scene to conduct their investigation.

The construction site has been closed until further notice.

The expansion of Paul-Gérin-Lajoie school will increase the capacity to accommodate the number of students, in addition to the addition of nine classrooms and a double gymnasium.
