Work accident in Estrie | Two people stranded after falling from scaffolding at Domtar plant

Two people are trapped in the debris caused by the collapse of a multi-storey scaffolding at the start of the night, Tuesday, at the Domtar paper company plant in Windsor, Estrie.

Another physically injured worker was taken to hospital, but there is no fear for his life, according to the general manager of the Domtar factory in Windsor, Sylvain Bricault.

The incident would have occurred around 1:35 am, on the night of Monday to Tuesday.

During a press briefing Tuesday morning, Mr. Bricault said that the police from the Sûreté du Québec, members of the plant’s emergency brigade as well as ambulance services were on site to carry out the intervention. An investigation will also be carried out to determine the cause of the collapse.

Mr. Bricault could not give details of the state of health of the trapped workers.

He said the injured workers were not factory employees, but rather worked for contractors who were doing major work at the facility.

The incident took place in the pulp mill sector, and all work in this sector is currently at a standstill.

“There were other people who were in the equipment and around the equipment. So people were able to come out with assistance [et] were subsequently treated for psychological disorders. There are also workers who were in the area who were also treated for psychological disorders ”, indicated the general manager.

Psychological support was also offered to colleagues and families of workers.
