I’ll say it from the outset, I have a lot of sympathy for young households who are thinking about buying property in this crazy market. High prices, soaring rates, factors combine to complicate the task.
There is a lack of housing. Too many households are fighting over the same units, creating disproportionate pressure on prices.
I remain convinced that investing in property is one of the excellent choices in life. The younger we are lucky enough to start, the more opportunity we will have to build wealth. Assets appreciate, allowing you to later have access to better property, to live more easily or to leave an inheritance value.
Among the options available to improve one’s ability to acquire a condo or a house, one seems to have almost become taboo: working more. Overtime or a second job, to earn additional income.

Quality of life
It seems that in a society that values quality of life, free time and relaxing at the spa twice a week, working more is a concept that sounds old. An outdated idea. A vestige from archaeological excavations.
That’s not my opinion. Working is a more than honorable act. A citizen contributes to society, to its economy and in return he brings home a remuneration. Investing the income from a second job in the acquisition of property represents a noble, courageous and… brilliant act.
These are tough times for young couples, but they are not the first. There have been wars, economic crises, periods of great poverty. Throughout the ages, young people have worked hard to give themselves a boost in life.
A generation of young men emigrated to James Bay, to the cold and far away, to do hard work. But good pay and almost nowhere to spend it. Two or three years into this effort and many had the down payment for their first home.
James Bay is an example. Going abroad, having multiple jobs, working day and night; go talk to the older ones, they have stories to tell about putting in the hard work to get going in life.

Real hard times
Centuries before, our ancestors arrived on a wooded plot where they had to build their house with their own hands. And the farm too, in addition to clearing the land to create his survival job. It is thanks to these builders that there is a comfortable life today in our country.
We don’t want to go back to that misery, but remembering it a little puts things into perspective. Working doesn’t make you die!
The newspaper told the story of Yan and Alexandra at the end of the week: four jobs to accumulate their down payment!
Some people see strange people there. Others see it as a disordered era.
I just say “well done” to them! Be proud!
