words of young apprentices from Côte-d’Oriens “to be considered and to have responsibilities”

“Being 20 in 2022” is the theme of our special day this Tuesday, January 18, 2022 on France Bleu. In our File + INFO, we invite you to listen to the cross-talk of two young Côte-d’Oriens, apprentices and students at the Longvic Trades School. They are 20 years old and have both chosen to learn a work-study job, with an ambition to make a success of their lives.

Different paths but the same choice assumed

On one side there is Marion, in Bac Pro Vente, she took the apprenticeship path from the 3rd with a CAP Vente, because she says, “I was not very academic”, but her asset, unlike others, is that she knew exactly what she liked. “I have always wanted to sell, I really like contact with customers, I like to talk and above all to satisfy customer needs.” For Clément, currently in BTS Automotive mechanics, apprenticeship was not his first choice. The young man first got his baccalaureate, and enrolled in the first year of a bachelor’s degree in science for engineering, but quickly he had want something else. “I needed to get my hands dirty”, and especially, “I reoriented myself because I found it too theoretical. With apprenticeship, I earn money, I learn a trade while doing it.”

Work, schedule, life as an apprentice is not so simple

But beware, life as an apprentice is not easy, schedules change often and Suddenly the practice of a sport in a club becomes complicated. Marion, for example, had to stop judo and young woman learns to deal with a schedule “employee every other week and sometimes it’s hard you have to do without school holidays like others my age” but it is without regret. she continues, “I feel in my place, and I know that when I graduate from Commerce, it will be easier for me to find a job.”

Young volunteers and very determined

It’s also a very strong feeling for Clément, that of knowing (already) where he wants to go, and this feeling also of having already done a big step into the adult world. “We feel considered, we work, we have responsibilities. We are doing something with our lives!” A life where both of them also like, like all people of their age, going out with friends, enjoying friends, but always, with in the back of their minds a tenacious desire to succeed, and perhaps greater maturity. Clément like Marion, want to move forward, quickly and pursue their goals, their dreams. “Already stopping the Covid-19 would be good, and my dream would be to open my car company one day” confides the Côte-d’Orient. Like him, Marion would also like and first “Getting your baccalaureate because it hasn’t always been easy”, and then one day be “his own boss and taking care of his employees as well as possible.” Proof if it were still needed today that young 20-year-old Côte-d’Oriens do not lack ambitions or dreams in 2022.
