According to the former premier of Quebec, the CRTC’s decision “infringes freedom of expression”.

However, “Justin Trudeau’s silence” since the outbreak of this controversy “demonstrates the lack of consideration his government has for this fundamental freedom,” he said in a tweet published Monday evening.

“In a democratic society, the government cannot dictate what is said in the media. When I become Prime Minister, I will ensure that the CRTC does not overstep its mandate,” adds Jean Charest.

Remember that the CRTC rendered a decision last week which upheld a complaint against Radio-Canada and asked it to present to its author “a public written apology” for a column broadcast on the program 15-18 on August 17, 2020.

The “word beginning with an N” was then used four times – three times in French and once in English – during a segment entitled “Actuality with Simon Jodoin: are certain ideas becoming taboo? on ICI Radio-Canada Première.

In this segment, columnist Simon Jodoin and host Annie Desrochers talked about the book by Pierre Vallières white niggers of americain the wake of the launch of a petition demanding the dismissal of a professor from Concordia University, since she had rightly cited the title of this book in an educational context.
