Debates – Diversification of opinions

We suspected that Regis Labeaume was not the type to retire to his lands for good after his departure from Quebec City Hall last year. André-Philippe Côté even drew a prescient caricature of it…

He thus joins the team of collaborators of The Press with the aim of sharing his colorful ideas and points of view.

A man of earthy verve, this businessman with a degree in sociology will have carte blanche to comment on the news. He will contribute in his own way to the diversification of opinions by contributing every Thursday to the Debates section.

welcome to The PressRégis Labeaume!

LPA – Reinforcement of our consumption coverage

For the past few months, prices have been increasing at a speed not seen for more than 30 years. Whether buying a carton of milk or a house, our readers wonder why the bill is so high and what they can do to stretch their budget.

To help them answer these and many other questions surrounding their purchases, we’ll be bolstering our daily coverage of economic and consumer issues.

We are going to assign a journalist, Stephanie Berube, to cover everything that affects your purchasing power. She will join Nathaelle Morissettewhich will focus on retail and consumer.

The famous teacher Sylvain Charleboiswhom you know well as a regular contributor to Débats, will share his observations with you every week in a new column, “Grocery Basket”, in La Presse Affaires.

Items that will be added to the Lifestyle section, to the fascinating files ofIsabelle Dube in our section Your finances and of course, to the excellent texts of our columnist specializing in personal finance and consumption Marie-Eve Fournierwhich today also portrays the efforts that some of our readers had to make to make ends meet.

Note that the other sections will also participate in their own way in this desire to accompany you in these times of galloping inflation. The “La coquette du quartier” section, for example, was created in the Inspiration section, with the objective of presenting houses that stand out… at a price of less than $500,000. Ditto for the section “What are we eating? », published on the web and mobile platforms, which will mainly highlight recipes for small budgets.

News – “Seen, read, verified” section

As of today, the News section has a new fact-checking type section, entitled “Seen, read, verified”, with the aim of clarifying the most nebulous issues. The formula will be flexible and will occasionally incorporate your questions and queries, to which the journalists will respond with the rigor they are known for.

To get off to a good start, the journalist Judith Lachapelle today dissects Facebook’s threat this week to remove news texts from its feed in response to Bill C-18, which aims to force Internet giants to compensate the media. Good reading !

The Press – Give more

The objective of all these new features is to help you navigate through rich news, make informed choices, better understand the complex and uncertain world in which we live and better cope with it. The objective, too, is to thank our contributors, who allow us to give more to all readers.
